“I’ll grab us some coffee,” Jace said as I slipped my phone back inside my pocket. “I see the box of madeleines is already on your grandmother’s desk.”

I snorted. “Glo, did you eat all the madeleines?”

“Quit your whining, Law Lady,” Glo said from her perch atop Nana’s computer. “I left you a couple.”

Nana chuckled as I slid into an empty chair in front of her desk. “Guess what, Isla?”

“What?”

“When Neil and Nick gave me the box of madeleines this morning, Nick told me there are four more brothers and three sisters in his family. Can you imagine having nine kids?”

I shuddered. “Gosh, no.”

“Here you are.” Jace handed me a cup of coffee. “I laced it with honey, cinnamon, and a splash of frothed milk.”

“I just love that hand frother,” Nana said, moving a stack of papers on her desk closer to her. “Best present I’ve bought myself in ages.”

I took a tentative sip of the hot java and moaned. “I agree. Totally worth it.”

“Let’s get to it, then,” Nana said. “I heard the phone call. You guys have a meeting to get to in an hour. Before we get started on the backgrounds, I’ve been making calls all morning over the three islands, and the beer given to Dorian, the Green Liquid Death, is sold all over the islands. It’s a pretty popular beer, I guess.”

Jace nodded. “I’ve had it a couple times.”

“It’s especially sought after during the holidays because of its color. Not just St. Paddy’s Day, but Yule and other festive times. So narrowing down who may have bought the beer is going to be next to impossible.”

“It was worth a shot,” I said.

Nana picked up the first piece of paper. “Let’s get to the backgrounds. Nyria Granger. Age, forty-two. Sea witch. She’s the ex-wife of Dorian Sonders, our victim. She’s lived in the Bermuda Triangle her entire life, but mainly on Sapphire Isle. She only moved to Neptune Oasis when she married Dorian, and then when they divorced last year, she bought a house and continued to live on Neptune Oasis. Employment shows her working part-time at Nautical Knits, a clothing store on Neptune Oasis. Her financials are excellent, even though she only works part-time. That sent up a red flag to me, so I started digging deeper. Seems our Ms. Granger is a rather wealthy woman. And not because of anything Dorian Sonders did. No, this is old family money.” Nana paused. “Huge old family money.”

“Really?” I mused. “I never would have gotten that from her. She lives in a rather unassuming house, her golf cart isn’t flashy, and she doesn’t come across as…well, as someone who has a ton of money.”

“Well, she does. Her parents were killed in a plane crash when she was twenty-three, and she inherited the money. Dorian was her first marriage.”

“She was probably apprehensive to date if she has big money,” Jace said.

I reached over and grabbed a madeleine out of the box. “Which begs the question…did Dorian take her for any of that money?”

“I don’t think so,” Nana said.
